New political movement formed in Mali

A new political movement has sprung up in Mali.

The National Alliance for safeguarding the Fulani identity and restoration of justice was formed with a stated mission of protecting the Fulani against alleged abuses by the Malian army.

Umar al-Janah, the 27 year old secretary general of the movement reportedly said they are not jihadist, they just want to protect fulani civilians.

The announcement of the creation of the National Alliance for safeguarding the identity Fulani however comes a little over the first anniversary of the signing of the inter-Malian peace agreement.

The peace agreement between the Government of Mali and members of the coalition of armed groups was hailed globally as a key step towards bringing stability and security back to the country.

The agreement has still not been fully implemented.
